Funny Thing That Happened

I'll be the first to admit that when you're planning a camping trip, not everything goes according. Especially if you're traveling into unfamiliar territory.

REI Yard Sale

Last weekend I attended my first REI yard sale and let me tell you, besides all the great deals, it was nothing like I expected. Regardless of showing up several hours early to get a good spot in line, once the clock hits 10 o'clock its every man for himself! There was no method to that madness.
So today I've come up with a few tips to make your shopping trip a success if you're interested in hitting the next yard sale.

Keeping Tradition Alive

Somtimes in our lives, we follow traditions not just for the sake of doing them but to remind us of people who are no longer with us. Somehow we feel this brings us that much closer to the person that has passed and helps heal the soul.
Today I'd like to commemorate my godfather Jerry Edwards, Although I was only an infant when he passed, I like to think that his love for the outdoors lives in me. Many of the photos here on my blog are of him and have inspired this blog. You can't look at these pictures and tell me this guy didn't love to be outside!

Thank you Nino Jerry for giving us this gift, because  whenever we are sitting around a campfire, whenever we feel the wind on our face, or see a shooting star in the sky, we know you are present with us.

Campfire Therapy

Hello Readers,

My name is Adriana and this is my first blog ever so excuse me if this post seems a bit scattered. There's a tornado of thoughts going on in my head right now and my hands are trying to catch up with them.
First of all let me share with you my motivation behind Campfire Therapy. Back in May of 2010 my boyfriend ( now husband) and I decided to take a totally random camping trip to Sedona, AZ. I wanted to drive somewhere I'd never been before. I have lived in San Diego all my life and the thought of taking a road trip was so exciting to me. We packed up everything we'd need for a weekend of camping and headed East on I-8. Once we arrived, we stopped at our first hiking destination at Bell Rock ( below):

Well during our hike up this majestic red rock we saw another lovely couple on the trail with their baby. What made this event the most memorable for me was the fact that we were hiking through pretty intense heat and yet here was this baby chillin' on his dad's back in baby carrier! I saw that and thought, " Wow. THAT IS AWESOME! I want to do that when I have kids."
Right now you might be thinking to yourself  " big deal", but it was such an enlightening moment for me.
Growing up my brothers and sisters and I spent a lot of time watching tv, watching movies, playing video games. Technology has come a long way from the VHS player and super nintendo that I remember. We've forgotten how therapeutic it can be to just pack up your old camping gear that's been collecting dust in the garage and get away for the weekend with your loved ones.
Since that trip I have become addicted to camping and try to make time for it as much as possible. Hey, if it gets my brothers away from the boob tube for a while and we get to spend quality time around a campfire making s'mores why not?
My goal for Campfire Therapy is to share my experience with other readers who share my enthusiasm for camping and reconnecting with our families. I'll also be posting tips and tricks I've learned along the way, book reviews on material that can help you plan your trip, and where to get gear that best suits your needs.
I hope you've enjoyed my rambling and please if you have any suggestions leave a comment. I'd be happy to receive any and all constructive criticism : )
